Chances are you are aware of the importance of having a business blog to drive traffic to your website, increase quality leads, and position yourself as a thought leader in your industry. But what happens when you run out of ideas? Don’t panic—there are a variety of great, free tools at your fingertips to help you find blog topics that will resonate with your readers.
3 Social Search Tools to Generate Blog Topics
Here are three tools to help you quickly and easily find inspiration for your next blog post:
This is a great tool that indexes hundreds of billions of tweets to provide social search, social analytics, and social trends information based on your keyword search. Here you can see popular topics now and for all time for your industry. For example, maybe you have a copywriting blog. You would put in a keyword like “blogging” and hit the search icon. Take a look at the results for the past hour, twelve hours, day, seven days, or thirty days. If you want to see evergreen topics for your industry, click the ‘all time’ option.
This is a great social search engine that aggregates content from several popular social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, YouTube, Vimeo, and more. When you land on the site, you can instantly see what’s trending. Type in your keywords to find out what related content is popular right now.
Social Searcher is a straight-forward social search engine and analytics tool that allows you to type in a keyword to obtain search results on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ related to your topic. As an example, one of our current clients is a family-owned beverage company that specializes in root beer. To find possible ideas for blog posts, I did a search for “root beer.” At first glance, several recipes using root beer popped up, including Labor Day recipes for the upcoming Labor Day weekend. And I found out it was ice cream week. Who knew? Within a couple of minutes, you can scan search results for great blog ideas and click the analytics tab to see data by post or social network. It even shows you posts by hour and day of the week so you can see what days/times are most popular.
In addition to the social search tools above, check out forums related to your industry to keep your finger on the pulse of latest trends and current topics. LinkedIn allows you to find groups related to your topic of interest or industry. This is a great way to monitor your industry. To find groups to join, just type in your keyword and click the search button. When the search results appear, click the option that says “Groups about (keyword).” You can then view and join groups.
These tools are a great first step in the development of blog posts and other content that offers value to your targeted audience. Don’t forget to blast those blog posts out through all of your social media channels when you are finished!
