If you’ve read this far, you’ve probably noticed that we could fill a barrel with the wine metaphors and images on this site. Why the “wine” angle you might ask? Simple. Over the years, many people who only heard our name would inevitably ask, “Are you in the wine business?” Uh, no. But it got us thinking. Could we leverage that concept? So we brainstormed, talked, researched, analyzed, and processed. Yep. We ran with it. Was it a pour decision or a grape one (see, now we can’t help ourselves)? Time will tell.
So where did the name “OpenVine” come from? Our founder, Bill Germino, put it this way: “In the Scripture verse John 15:5, Christ says ‘I am the Vine, you are the branches…he abides in Me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.’ I knew that Jesus is always open to receiving anyone who desires to know Him. Those two words fit well together and the domain was available. Boom. I dedicated the business to Him. Plus, the vine metaphor fit really well with the initial services we offered, which was collaboration software. So that was our name.”
